Adderall XR could impair your ability to operate machinery or vehicles.Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine are central nervous system stimulants. If you or your child has Tourette's syndrome, Adderall XR could worsen motor and vocal tics. It’s used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder). This improves communication in parts of the brain that produce dopamine and norepinephrine, a chemical that helps you a person stay awake, pay attention, and think clearly. These medications are associated with disrupted circulation to the extremities (called peripheral vasculopathy) and with Raynaud's phenomenon, which involves decreased blood flow to certain areas of the body, like the fingers or toes. Stimulants may cause blood circulation problems.Blurred vision may occur with this type of medication.
Stimulant treatment can disrupt vision.If seizures are present, Adderall XR shouldn't be taken. Amphetamine (Evekeo, others) is also used for a limited period of time (a few weeks) along with a reduced calorie diet and an exercise plan for weight loss in obese people unable to lose weight. Stimulants may increase the likelihood of a seizure for people with a prior history of them, with established electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities, or, very rarely, for people without a history of this condition. Amphetamine (Evekeo, others) is also used to treat narcolepsy (a sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep). These medications can be problematic for people with seizures.If your child is taking Adderall XR and isn't growing or gaining weight, you may need to check with their doctor on interrupting their treatment. Stimulant use may impact growth in children.
